Student Spotlight: Becca's Story

I want to tell you about my friend, Becca.

Becca is in her 40’s and hit a place in her life where she was really struggling. With two incredible daughters, a wonderful husband, and a career as a photographer, she had a good life but was feeling stuck and didn’t know what moving forward even looked like.

A friend encouraged her to read my book, Unstuck, and it was within those pages that a breakthrough occurred. “It was a total wake-up call for me. I’ve since bought multiple copies and give them away all the time,” she says.

Because of the book, Becca decided to join my Get Unstuck Group Coaching. “At my age, I felt like I had already tried everything. I had tried it all. But this program is different. It’s so pinpointed. It takes everything — your personality, your gifts, your strengths, and it distills it down. It’s a process, and not always easy, but it breaks it down and gives you tools specific to you.”

During the course of doing the work inside the group coaching, Becca had another major revelation, “I realized I had always just been focusing on one-lane thinking. Photography was this one thing I did, and that’s just what I stuck to. After I went through the course, my perspective totally changed and my blinders came off. I learned how to think bigger about what I wanted for my life. I thought, ‘wait, a second, why can’t I do big things? Why can’t I use all of my gifts and not just the one?!’”

With Becca’s graphic design and art director background, she realized what she loved, and what she was good at, was so much more than just photography. “Kim helped me realize that I was thinking too small. I needed to think bigger. This bigger/broader thinking is one of the tools I now have in my tool belt that I can access whenever I need to. If I get off track, I just have to ask myself some simple questions and I’m back on track and moving forward again,” she says.

Shortly after completing Get Unstuck Group Coaching, Becca opened her own creative branding studio, McVay Creative. “It was scary for me to start a new business, I don’t like putting myself out there. I still drag my feet sometimes, but at the end of the day, I know this is what I’m supposed to do: create exceptional brand visuals for small businesses and entrepreneurs, so they can attract and serve their ideal client. I love the creative process and helping clients walk through the process with their branding is using my superpower: which is what I ultimately learned from Kim’s course. ” She continues, “before going through the coaching material, I was so full of fear. Now, I just take one step at a time and just keep going forward. That’s covered a lot in the course - feel the fear, but keep moving forward. That’s powerful.”

And it’s not just her professional life where Becca saw a change after going through Get Unstuck, “My husband says I’m a different person. He says I’m so much happier. Doing this work has helped my relationships with my parents, friends, everyone. They’ve all noticed a change. You will never know the gift you’re giving someone else by doing this work on yourself. I know it’s going to help my daughters. I know it’s helped my marriage.”

She goes on to say, “How can one course do that much? But because each module is so powerful in and of itself, it’s transformative. Each section builds on each other and it’s just something we women need to go through to get past whatever it is that is holding us back.

As Kim talks about in the program, I felt like I was a boat in the middle of the ocean and I was sinking because I had so many holes in the boat. I felt like I had nowhere to go and I was just stuck and sinking.

What Get Unstuck does is it helps you plug up the holes, gives you confidence to move forward, and provides you with a map of exactly where you need to go. Kim is like the coast guard. She comes up next to you and says, ‘hey, this is what the problem is and I’m going to give you the tools to help you.’”

“This course helped me realize that I’d been using bandaids to cover up wounds instead of actually working to heal them. Through this process with Kim, I had to dig in and find out what makes me tick. By the end of it, I was able to say, “okay, I have a wound here, but I recognize this part of me and I’m working on it. It’s healing and I know what to do to take care of it.

Before, I didn’t have that awareness.”

It’s stories like Becca’s that are the greatest part of the work I get to do inside Get Unstuck Group Coaching.

Hearing Becca say, “The Get Unstuck teaching changed my life. Every day, I say how much going through Kim’s coaching has changed my life. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but the best thing I’ve ever done. You have nothing to lose by joining and doing this work. All you’re going to do is gain more knowledge. Learn more about yourself. So just do it.”
